#1: Grapefruits

If you are taking medications for blood pressure, anxiety or insomnia, it is recommended to avoid eating grapefruit. This is because grapefruit tends to intensify the effect of certain drugs that might lead to side effects like nausea, vomiting, infections, etc. 


 

#2: Food with High Sodium 

Eating food items that contain a high amount of sodium such as sauces and pickles, can result in hypertension, therefore it is advised to avoid it as much as possible. If the lack of flavour in your food is a concern, you can always try including various herbs and spices to add flavour to your palate. 



 #3: Aerated Drinks 

Soft drinks contain a large amount of unwanted sugar, making them an unhealthy beverage. In a single 350 ml serving, a normal cola contains around 39 grams of sugar, which is equivalent to 10 teaspoons of sugar. Consequently, if you want to steer clear of obesity and diabetes, it is better to avoid fizzy drinks. 


 

#4: Caffeine 

For many, starting the day with caffeine is a habit and an unavoidable poison. But the intake of excessive caffeine can lead to increased anxiety and make the heartbeat more sporadically. It is harmful especially to people with heart disease. Coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, and certain medications contain caffeine. While you don’t have to give up on caffeine entirely, it is advisable to monitor your intake; it should not exceed 5-10 grams per day.



 #5: Soft Cheese

Soft Cheese is a great source of Calcium and Vitamin D. However, it may be not a good option for adults who have a weak immune system. Soft cheese contains more moisture than hard variants and can promote the development of food-poisoning bugs. If you love soft cheese and can’t avoid it, ensure that you cook it first in order to kill the bacteria. 



 #6: Raw or Undercooked Meat 

When you age, your immunity ages with you; meaning it isn’t as strong it as it used to be and that makes your body vulnerable to ailments. Raw or undercooked meat can harbour food poisoning bugs including E.coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, etc. Ensure that you cook the meat thoroughly and there are no traces of blood. Similarly, raw fish contains parasitic worms, which obviously is unhealthy for the body. However,  if you are a sushi lover, make sure that the fish has been frozen for a minimum of four days to kill the parasites.


 

With growing age, your immune system goes through certain changes that are completely evident and natural. Eating healthy is necessary to keep your immunity strong which is why your diet needs to include food items that can boost it. However, not all healthy food items can provide the right kind of nourishment. Above are some food items that should not be a part of your diet.
